Dr. Marcelino A. Dechavez dedicated his career to education, serving from 1962 to 2006 at NONAS, NOAC, NSCA, and what is now The Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Negros Occidental, Philippines.
He is a steadfast advocate of environmental conservation, sustainable living, and access to education.
This Fund supports students pursuing a college education at the CPSU Main campus in Kabankalan. This scholarship serves to encourage and help students excel in their pursuit of a higher education in the areas related to Agriculture, Forestry, and Animal Science.
CPSU started as a high school, the Negros Occidental Agricultural School (NONAS) and was dubbed the 1st Agricultural Institution in the country established by a Filipino Superintendent in the name of Jose F. Crisanto immediately after World War II in 1946. The institution was converted to Negros Occidental Agricultural College (NOAC) in 1977.
Under Dr. Dechavez’s term, NOAC was converted into a state college known as the Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA) in 2001. He was the first president of NSCA. NSCA then evolved into the Central Philippines State University in 2012.
